Forget it, just go.

I had a student today ask me this question:

“Mister Karabekian, how do you spell ‘stop’?”

I thought he was joking, so I told him to look out the window at the traffic signs on the street.  He began to get up to walk toward the window and I realized he actually didn’t know how to spell an extremely common monosyllabic word, so I spelled it for him:

Me: “s-t-o-p”

Student: “What?”

Me: “‘Stop’ is spelled s-t-o-p”

Student: “I don’t get it.”
