I don’t really know how to preface this, but the following actually happened in my classroom:
Student: “Mister Karabekian, where is number five?”
Me: “Right before six, right after four”
Student: “I don’t get it, where do I find the question five?”
Me: “In your book, right after the fourth question you just answered.”
Student: “Oh, okay, I get it.”
Middle School Proverbs 
I have a 12 year old daughter in middle school and I can see her saying this to her teachers! Your site is hilarious and I’m glad that you can laugh about it! It’s enough for me to have one of these irrational creatures as part of my family. If I were surrounded by a bunch of them everyday, I would completely lose it.

As a teacher, this is a stock answer for students who want me to give them the answer. Another good one is to tell the student a random page number (942, 1544) after you have given the student a page reference at least twice. The evil teacher in me delights in watching them look for page 855 in a textbook of not more than 300 pages
Haha, my students aren’t so clever. They will just as quickly raise a hand and ask me for the answer. No smoke and mirrors from them.

I am, and I do my very best everyday to teach them writing, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. After a year or more in my class, they learn these things very well. I cannot, unfortunately, teach common sense however.

I absolutely hate, with passion, the education quality of whatever public school system in wherever you are.
It’s an abomination, and I feel as if we’re going to have a few too many individuals who flip burgers at McDonald’s for a lifetime job.
It’s an absolute joke. The content of this blog needs to be shown to education board members and state government officials. There is something seriously wrong. I know 3rd graders who are better than this. Come on, what are these people? Cavemen? From what I’ve seen so far, it appears that yes, indeed, they’re the equivalent of them.
This is the United States, for Christ’s sake. I could understand this if it was underprivileged, uneducated foreign children in poor countries in other parts of the world. But this is America, the land of the free and the land of the beautiful. Our country has great opportunities and fantastic government and educational system, superior to so many other countries.
We need to maintain those high standards… and this is definitely not helping the cause.
So please, for the future of this country and its citizens, advocate for a greater education and demand changes.

This is part of the fun of watching kids go through their phases and progress! Sounds like you can’t find the fun in the things that happen. Common sense is not so common, especially when they’re trying so hard. Nothing wrong in acknowledging these things if you ask me.
The best way to make a change is through humor!
I like to think that I’m helping! I make sure to point out to them, obviously not in a humiliating way, whenever they say something incorrectly, so that they can hopefully refrain from repeating their mistakes.
